Journalism is tricky

Another post on my Spectrum blog: HERE

This one is a response to a reader who had an issue with THIS story in today’s paper. The reader was angry that we spelled her name wrong (bad) and she felt that we misquoted her (or “unquoted” to use her terminology). My response deals with the fact that while we did cover her protest it was not the crux of the story and as a source of campus news we have a responsibility to objectivity and cannot, in good journalistic faith, write an entire story accusing an international official of racism. We must also present the other side–even if I agree with everything the protesters stand for.
